BACKGROUND

 How We Got Started

In 2001, Jay Hood, an All-American shortstop from Georgia Tech who had been drafted in the sixth round by the Anaheim Angels, was pursuing his athletic dream at the highest level.  Abruptly it was all over, when a freak wrist injury and four subsequent surgeries ended Jay’s baseball career.  Jay returned to Georgia Tech to finish his degree program struggling to come up with a Plan B in regards to his future career.

Near his degree completion from Tech, Jay had a conversation through a mutual friend by the name of Fred Chiverton.  Fred, a results oreinted recruiter with a track record of proven success in placement and teaching job transition skills asked Jay “Who is helping you with your career search now that your playing days are over? Is your agent, coaches, professional organization or your college helping you?"  Jay’s response, “Georgia Tech is helping me out with contacts and referrals, but I have not received much guidance dealing with my resume, preparing me for interviews, or how to transfer my athletic characteristics and experience to the business world.”  From that conversation, an idea to develop a business plan aimed at helping athletes through this tough transition time was born.

football-field.jpgFred, who has been in recruitment since 2000, felt he could add his expertise to the business plan.  From his recruiting experience, he knew that corporations sought the “athlete” skill set which is a catchall phrase for the competitive, disciplined, goal oriented, coachable candidate.  With previous career success in sales and sales management with the telecommunications and software sectors, Fred brought a strong business background to what is now known as All-American Resources.

All-American Resources and its team of associates have been placing athletes and non-athletes in sales, banking, financial services and management positions nationwide for the past seven years.  On college campuses, AAR has been enhancing University Career Services efforts as well as CHAMPS/Life Skills programming in conjunction with University athletic programs thru group seminars and mock interview events.  Most importantly, AAR has been reaching out to individual students and student-athletes providing career guidance, interview preparation, educational internships and job shadowing opportunities as well as job placement.
